Thuvar Dhal - 3/4 cup, washed
Turmeric - 1 tsp
Sambhar Powder - 1 tbsp. + 1 tbsp.
Asafetida - 1 tsp + 1 tsp
Ghee - 1 tbsp. 1 tbsp.
Salt
Sambhar Onion - 5
Tomato - 1
Carrot - 1, cubed (or any other Vegetable like Eggplant, Drumstick, Potato etc.)
Tamarind Juice -1/2 cup
Oil - 1 tbsp.
Mustard - 1 tsp
Urad Dhal - 1 tsp
Fenugreek - 1 tsp
Red Chilli - 2
Sambhar Onion - 1, diced
Curry Leaves
In a pressure cooker add Thuvar Dhal along with Turmeric, Sambhar Powder, Asafetida, Ghee and required Salt. Pressure cook for 3 whistles.
Once the steam subsides add in Onion, Tomato and other Vegetables along with Tamarind Juice, Sambhar Powder and 1 1/2 cup Water. Season with required Salt and close the lid. Pressure cook for 2 whistles.
Heat 1 tbsp. Ghee and Oil in a skillet and temper Mustard, Urad Dhal, Fenugreek, Red Chilli, Asafetida, Onion and Curry Leaves. Add this seasoning over and the Sambhar and mix well.
